Types of Waitlist In Indian Railways
This blog provides information about the various waitlist tickets available while boking the railway tickets.

Waitlist in Train Ticket Booking
The term wait list indicates that passenger does not have to confirm birth and they may not allow traveling on reserved trains with such tickets.
Types of Waitlists
There are multiple types of waitlists which are explained below-
v General Waiting List (GNWL)
Suppose, At the time of booking the available tickets are 2 only and you are trying to book 3 tickets then you will get 2 confirm birth and 1 general waitlist ticket. If someone cancels his/her confirmed ticket this waitlisted person’s ticket will be confirmed automatically.
v Remote Location Waiting List (RLWL)
Suppose, A train starts from station A and the ending station is B. C and D are the other important stations that are on the way thus when tickets are booked from and for intermediate stations then a remote location wait list is created. These tickets were confirmed once when the destination confirmed tickets were canceled. The probability of getting confirmation of such waitlist tickets is very low.
v Pooled Quota Waiting List (PQWL)
The waitlist pooled quota is shared by several small size railway stations. The pooled quota is operated by the originating railway station and the single pooled quota runs throughout the journey. It can be simply said that if a passenger is booking a ticket from the originating railway station or any one of the intermediate railway stations then pooled quota is applied.
v Remote Location General Waiting List (RLGN)
This is also known as the last waitlist and the probability of getting a confirmed ticket is very low through this quota. While booking the ticket the WL quota is RLWL, and then the tickets are placed in RLGN. This type of quota is created if there is no pooled quota at any route.
v Roadside Station Waiting List (RSWL)
This waitlist indicates that the ticket is issued from the departure station to a nearby other station. The probability of confirmation of such tickets is also very less.
For example, for the New Delhi- Lucknow Rajdhani, passengers boarding from Delhi with a boarding ticket will be put under this category.
v Request Waiting List (RQWL)
If the tickets are booked from and to intermediate stations and do not come under the general waitlist, pooled quota, or remote location waitlist such tickets are allotted a request waiting list.
v Tatkal waiting List (CKWL)
This waitlist is created for Tatkal tickets. Tatkal waitlist is less likely to be confirmed as priority is given to GNWL ticket confirmation while chart preparation.
