Train Tickets Booking Mode

The train tickets may be pre-booked in case of SL class, 3A class, 1A class, 2A class, 3E class, or CC class. The unreserved train ticket booking can be made in two ways which are as follows-

 


v  Offline General/Tatkal Booking

This is the mode of the ticket where the user must visit their nearest railway station and purchase the ticket from the ticket counter. The following points are notable points while looking for a booking-

ü  For unreserved class tickets may be issued on the same and valid for certain hours only.

ü  For reserved class bookings can be made anytime through the counter prior to 60 days of the commencement of the journey.

ü   The Tatkal booking window opens every day at 10 AM for AC class and at 11 AM for sleeper class of reservation.

ü  There will not be any transaction charge while booking through the counter.

ü  Platform tickets can be booked through the counters which further vary from 10 INR to 50 INR and are subjected to real-time railway circulars or notices.

 


v  Online General/Tatkal Booking

This is the most convenient method of ticket booking where a person must make one official IRCTC ID and password and through the user dashboard, the tickets can be easily booked and canceled. There is multiple third-party application like RailYaatri, MakeMyTrip, Paytm, etc. available which allows booking from 00:00 AM to 11:45 PM round the clock.  

The following points are notable points while looking for a booking-

ü   Both general and Tatkal booking is possible through the online server of the Indian Railway called IRCTC.

ü  There IRCTC mobile application and web application both are available. For unreserved class booking, the UTS Android application can be used.

Online Booking of Train Tickets Step-by-Step

There are a few steps adopting which one can easily find the ticket. The steps are as follows-

·   One must have a valid email and working phone number in order to register for the IRCTC application.

·    Once registration is over add the master list of names for whom tickets need to be booked although this is not a mandatory step.

·   Search the trains from and to places and apply the relevant filters if required.

·       Click on train and seat type, it will display the number of seats available and the corresponding fare in INR.

·       Proceed with booking and make a payment through a suitable transaction instrument like a credit card, debit card, UPI, wallet, or net banking.

·    Once the ticket is booked you will receive the ticket on registered mail address and mobile number.

·     Take one personal photo ID card while traveling on the train as TC can ask for the same for identity validation.

Cancellation of Train Ticket Step-by-Step

The train cancellation might be because of various reasons but one prime reason is rescheduling of trip or sudden cancellation. The cancellation process for an offline and online booked ticket is different while the first one is quite easy and with some clicks user will get a refund within 3 to 7 working days in the transaction account.  

 


v  Online General Ticket Cancellation steps

ü  Log on to the official IRCTC website.

ü  visit the “Booked Tickets" link and select the ticket to be cancelled.

ü  Proceed with the cancellation of the selected tickets. If multiple tickets have been booked with a single PNR, IRCTC facilitates to cancel single or multiple tickets.

ü  Cancellation will be confirmed online and the refund will be credited back to the account used for booking, as for normal internet tickets.

ü  In case of partial cancellation of tickets, a fresh Electronic Reservation Slip needs to be carried by the passenger.

 

 


v  Offline General Ticket Cancellation Steps

 

ü  Visit the official website IRCTC, and under the Trains section, visit cancel the ticket and select the Counter ticket option.

ü  Enter the ticket PNR number, and train number, fill in the captcha, and submit the form.

ü  Validate the mobile OTP assigned while booking the tickets.

ü  Post OTP validation, PNR and corresponding details will be displayed there, match the details, and proceed for cancellation.

ü  The details of the refund will be intimated through your mobile number.

ü  In case of the ticket is waitlist or RAC, online cancellation is allowed 30 minutes prior to departures.

 

 


v  Cancellation Charges for General Ticket Cancellation

ü  If the confirmed ticket is cancelled prior to 48 hours of the scheduled departure of the train the following charges will be applicable on different classes of tickets-

-       Rs 240 for AC First Class/Executive Class

-       Rs 200 for AC 2 Tier/First Class.

-       Rs 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy

-       Rs 120 for Sleeper Class

-       Rs 60 for Second Class

 

ü  The confirmed ticket is cancelled 12 to 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure the cancellation charges will be 25% of the fare and it will further rise to 50% if the booking is cancelled within 4-12 hours.

v  No refund will be given for Tatkal's confirmed ticket. For contingent or waitlist ticket cancellation, one will be charged as the above-mentioned amount.

v  Cancellation of Ticket After Chart Preparation

·       The online booked ticket cannot be canceled once the chart is prepared.
