Indian Railway Rules

As an organization, Indian Railway has made rules based on real-time functional requirements for the ease of travelers. These rules guide the safe, easy, and comfortable journey for fellow passengers. The basic rules are as given below-

 

v  Luggage Related Rules

Train travel baggage weight has a limit, Surprised?

Yes, it is right and every passenger can carry a certain mass of baggage free of cost based on the ticket category. Any person carrying luggage of higher weight may be fined at least 30 Rs. Look at the below table to get the detailed rate of luggage-

Railway Luggage Rules

ü  If luggage weight exceeds the free limit, it will be charged 6 times the scale rate while if it is in between free allowance and marginal allowance, it will be charged 1.5 times only.

ü  Free allowances are not allowed for heavy luggage like bikes, cylinders, etc.

ü  Children are allowed only half the free personal weight to carry while journey.

ü  The maximum permitted size of the suitcase in 3A/CC is 55X45X22.5 cm only. 

ü  The suitcases with sizes above 100X60X25 cm will be treated as non-personal language and one cannot carry them with them.  

ü  Goods more than 100 kg or non-personal dimensions by size will be charged heavily thus try to avoid carrying such items while traveling.

ü  Luggage van needs to be booked to carry extra luggage.

ü  Explosive substances or other articles dangerous in nature are not allowed.

ü  Patients are permitted to carry stand and cylinders and little higher weights also.

 

Railways Rules for Booked Luggage in Freight Trains

ü  It is mandatory to present 30 minutes prior to departure of the train along with luggage.

ü  After train arrival, the respective person can take luggage 30 minutes after the train arrival.

 

Rules For Theft, Loss, or Damage of Luggage

ü  Immediately of the information contact to vehicle contractor, guard, or posted GRP post and put an FIR. The lodged complaints can be forwarded for necessary actions to disrupt the train journey ahead.


 

v Middle Birth Related Rules

In general, it is a very good problem for the travelers are allotted middle birth and sometimes one cannot sleep as per their wish. The sleeping rules of IRCTC say that passengers with midbirth can sleep from 10 PM to 6 AM.

 

If anyone having middle birth and trying to sleep before or after the allotted time the fellow passenger can claim for the same and vice versa.   

 


v  High Audio/Video Sound Related rules

This rule has been made for the passengers who talk loudly on phones, playing songs or videos in a high voice. One can reach to Ticket Examiner, and railway staff and make a complaint for the same if they are suffering from such high noise issues.

 


v  Chain Pulling Related Rules

Simply, do not try to experiment the chain pulling as it is not only a morally bad habit or practice but also a legal offense.

 

The card can be pulled only in the scenario of when someone elder, child, or disabled person misses the train or some sort of accident are probable.

 


v  Two Stations Boarding Rules

If one person misses the train at the designated departure railway station, still their ticket will be valid for up to two stations and TTE cannot be booked it for another passenger. 

 


v  Waiting List Ticket Rules

Passengers who had purchased the window tickets are allowed to travel even with the waiting tickets but passengers with waiting e-tickets passengers are not allowed to travel as IRCTC will refund them fully as per the standard established protocol of refund.

 


v  After 10 PM Related Rules

The railways are not only the safe journey but also sound sleep for the passengers thus enacted certain rules which are known as after 10 PM rules. These rules are as follows-

ü  The ticket Examiner cannot check the ticket after 10 PM.

ü  Food in train service can be served after 10 PM although pre-ordering of night food is possible even at night.

ü  People either in groups or some other forms are not allowed to talk.

 

 


v  Travel Journey Extension Rules

It is a frequently happening event where traveler books the ticket one or two stations prior to the actual station they want to de-board due to multiple reasons just like the non-availability of tickets.

In such a scenario, the passenger must ask for a ticket from TTE and there may be a chance of a change of seats for the travelers.
